RoseMary Lang was born in Indianapolis. She graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in performance clarinet from the Jordan Conservatory of Music at Butler University and was appointed professor of clarinet and saxophone and director of woodwind ensembles. She is known for her books on technique, including Clarinet, Short Cuts to Virtuoso Technique and for saxophone, Beginning Studies in the Altissimo Register. Miss Lang was a mainstay with small ensembles and pit orchestras around central Indiana. Clarinetist Gary Gray recalls her as “a life-time single lady who played and taught clarinet at the highest level” and also made time to coach serious students in chamber ensembles.
